Visit with Ameena and Thong to Chonburi

The Journey Begins

The beginning of the journey.  Yesterday was spent touring Bangkok with my father’s wife’s sister, Ameena.  We did a car tour followed by a riverboat tour.  Like many big cities in developing countries throughout the world, Bangkok is a picture of contradictions; incredible wealth staring down abject poverty and firmly rooted tradition staring back at the modern with skepticism.  Walking around the city I can feel the tension.  And at the same time, through the smiles and expressions of the people, the hospitality and kindness, I also sense the hope for the future.  I suppose the visceral feeling is enhanced by some of the outward expressions of some – check out the boat named ‘Obama’…
